A Dream Takes Flight: My Artisan Adventures Begin in Oaxaca
My heart is so full it feels like it might burst. That I could begin a new career planning artisan adventures for “my people” seems too good to be true. Deciding that it would be Oaxaca was the easiest part. It is a top destination for people who love art, good food and want to experience a typical Mexican town. Overall I feel like it is safe and there are many options.
Adding My Own Spark
I've been weeks in preparation for this visit knowing this isn't a new and unique thought—my goal is to infuse my personal flair. I have spent hours looking at tours currently available and I feel I can do my own thing cheaper. I am taking notes and making plans—it's exhilarating.
I am also preparing myself mentally, to be flexible and know I will have to follow my instincts, but with a lifetime following my personal compass I am up for this challenge.
My Ikigai: Passion Meets Purpose
My Ikigai. Do what you love and what you can be paid to do. It won't seem like work at all. I am so very overjoyed, sleep seems unnecessary.
The bigger high is when I tell people my plans for my future, and they are not surprised. The positive reactions from friends and family, gives me the strength and courage to move forward with this idea. I have a good feeling about it.
The Vision for Wanderlust-TravelLLC.com
In designing my initial artisan adventures for Wanderlust-travelLLC.com, I am designing a trip I would like to take myself. An ideal balance between guide, history, culture, local taste, and liberty to wander.
I dislike being part of a huge crowd, I enjoy a little downtime, and I love to take a turn off the beaten track—where there is no sign board. Discovering the offbeat places and stumbling on a gem is always a temptation for me. Nine out of ten times, following my hunch turns out to be a WIN!
Discoveries Before Departure
Here’s what I’ve learned so far:
Oaxaca is a blending of a large number of cultures, mainly the Zapotec and Mitec with a Spanish impact.
The town of Ocotlan, off the tourist circuit, has a charming local craft market.
A must-do: visit Teotitlan for a homestay, natural dyeing, and possible weaving experience.
In Oaxaca, there will be Huipil creation, hand embroidery, visits to markets, and at least two Michelin star dinners.
Many small neighborhoods in Oaxaca City have a distinct flair of their own, looking forward to visiting them with intention and discovering their secrets.

My Mission: Travel with Impact
I started Wanderlust-travelLLC.com to bring together educators, creatives, and curious souls for transformative travel experiences rooted in art, culture, and connection.
My goal for this research trip to Oaxaca is to meet the locals, the guides, drivers, and local craftspeople, and essentially stimulate the local economy with the minimum disruption possible. I am going to take small groups—6 to 8 per tour.

So Much Joy
I'm so thrilled I can hardly wait to see it all come together. Tune in soon.
